Seal Chart Etching Studio was established in 1986 when Lawrence Jenkins bought a Harry Rochat press.

After graduating at the Royal Academy of Arts schools, Lawrence was able to move to Kent to paint, thanks to receiving the Greenshield Scholarship. In 1979 he acquired a small studio at Chart Farm in Seal but after being unsettled by a small flood which damaged much of his work, he moved to a larger studio without considering the financial implications. Soon he had to diversify, running private life-drawing classes. The acquisition of the Rochat press was the beginning of the journey that led to the establishment of the Seal Chart Etching Studio.

The studio is situated on Chart Farm just north of the A25 between Seal and Kemsing. The studio is large enough for 6 etchers to use at a time. Thursday lunch times between 12:30 and 13:30 are typically a good time to visit; just bring your sandwich and something to drink.

South East Open Studios: when you can see six or seven featured etchers' prints), held annually for 2 weeks in July.
Our small print show in November: to see the work of the etchers who have frequented the studio over the previous 12 months.

Lawrence has editioned for many artists including Graham Clarke, Andrew Freeth, John Lessor, Leon Kossof and Ronny Wood, as well as himself and runs regular courses at the studio in print making, teaching etchers how to create and print etching plates using various techniques. These are run on a regular basis on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with additional workshops run on Saturdays.
